  17. The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) requires that the
  18. contents of AttributeValue fields in protocol elements be octet
  19. strings.  This document defines the requirements that must be
  20. satisfied by encoding rules used to render Directory attribute
  21. syntaxes into a form suitable for use in the LDAP, then goes on to
  22. define the encoding rules for the standard set of attribute syntaxes.
  23. This RFC is the product of the OSI Directory Services Working Group of
  24. the IETF.
  25.  
  26. This is now a Proposed Standard Protocol.
  27.  
  28. This RFC specifies an IAB standards track protocol for the Internet
  29. community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements.
  30. Please refer to the current edition of the "IAB Official Protocol
  31. Standards" for the standardization state and status of this protocol.
